College magazine photos

These are the images I took in preparation for my college magazine. I decided to go along the theme of cooking. I then edited one of these images and used it for my main image for the magazine.

Mock up magazine using professional images

Here we were given professional images in which we had to choose one to create a mock up magazine. I selected the image of Beyonce and created a piece that would be aimed at a target audience of around 20-30. This activity enabled us to differentiate between the different aspects of a magazines used for different target audiences.

Practice photo shoot

We got into small groups within the class and made our own mini photo shoots. This enabled us to practise taking photos for the real thing.

In design mock up

We worked on in design, trying to replicate a front cover I chose to recreate Marie Claire. We learnt how to set up a basic page with guidelines, margins and gutters. This work will come in handy when we desig our own contents pages.

We edited the images that we had taken in the previous week as practice for the real thing. Once edited, the images were then used as the main image for a mock up magazine, this is what i started creating:

Adjusting images

We got a selection of images and had a chance to adjust them by using various different tool such as contrast, brightness and saturation.

Basic photoshop skills

In week 2 we learnt how to use basic photoshop skills. The first tool we learnt how to use was the  spot healing brush; we used this to remove scratches from an old photograph. We then used the healing brush tool to remove wrinkles from an image.

We then used the lasso tool to cut around the image of a celebrity.

Learning these skills will going to help us when we come to edit the photographs for our real magazine.

Q&A

In the first week of media, we developed our q&a skills by creating fake interviews with a partner with the intention of making them interesting. We had a few minutes to ask questions and get to know each other before we wrote up a creative passage about them. I was paired with Sophie and this is what i wrote:

Sophie Oliva is a horse-riding enthusiast who has a passion for animals.  The 16 year old lives in shoebury and attended the Southend High School For Girls in which wasn’t one of her best experiences; Although Sophie did not enjoy school, she discovered an interest in art .

Sophie has many hobbies on the weekend such as: caring for her animals, shopping and listening to her favourite band Nirvana, however, her time will soon be consumed when she enters the world of work as a shop assistant.
